Consistent quality, keeps me coming back

I've been a ComposerCloud subscriber for a couple of years now, and EastWest has always been reliable. My recent renewal for ComposerCloud went smoothly, just like previous years. The library updates are consistent, and I appreciate that new additions are integrated well. I particularly like using Hollywood Fantasy Orchestra for my projects. This company consistently delivers high-quality virtual instruments without any hassle, which is why I keep renewing my subscription.

Amazing sounds!

I just got Forbidden Planet and it's incredible! The sounds are so unique and inspiring. The installation was a breeze with the Installation Center, and it loaded up perfectly in my DAW. I'm already using it everywhere in my new tracks. Definitely going to be exploring more of their synthesizers soon. Highly recommend EastWest Sounds to everyone!

Smooth purchase, solid product

I recently bought the Hollywood Strings library during their holiday sale. The ordering process was straightforward on their website; I just added it to my cart and the discount applied automatically. Downloaded through the Installation Center, which took a bit of time given the size of the library, but it was well-managed. Setup within my DAW was painless with the Opus engine. The sounds themselves are excellent, very expressive and detailed, exactly what I expected for professional use. I had a quick question about iLok activation, and their support team responded within 24 hours, which was pretty good. Overall, a reliable experience from start to finish.

Easy to get started

I just grabbed the Solo Cello for a track I'm working on. The website was super easy to navigate, and finding what I needed was no problem. Downloaded it and got it running with the Play Engine pretty quickly. The sound is really nice, sounds very real. It just worked, which is always a relief when you're buying software. No weird glitches or anything. Happy with it.

Good value, minor download hiccup

I purchased the Stormdrum 3 library during their anniversary sale. The price was excellent for what you get, providing a lot of percussive options. The checkout process was fine, and the software itself sounds great. My only minor issue was that one of the download files briefly failed and I had to restart it, adding a bit of time to the installation. It eventually worked, but it wasn't a completely seamless download experience. Customer service wasn't needed, but the product quality and value are definitely there, making it a worthwhile purchase despite the small snag.

What's the deal with returns if I buy a VST and it just doesn't vibe with my workflow? Is it a pain to get a refund?

R Rosa F. 1 month ago
It can be a bit tricky with software. Usually, they're pretty strict once you've activated the license. Check their policy for sure, but don't expect a super easy 'no questions asked' return like with physical goods.

Yeah, software refunds are generally tough across the board. I think if there's a technical issue they'll work with you, but if it's just 'not for me' after you've downloaded and installed, probably no luck.

Are their sounds royalty-free for commercial projects? I want to use them in a game I'm developing.

K Kevin 2 months ago
Yep, completely royalty-free. That's one of the main appeals for composers. You buy the library, you can use the sounds in anything.
5
D David Whitfield 2 months ago
Absolutely, that's standard for these kinds of virtual instruments. You own the license to use the sounds in your productions without paying extra royalties per use.

I'm on a Mac Studio with the M1 Max chip. Are the EastWest plugins fully compatible or am I going to run into issues?

J Jared Hughes 2 months ago
Mine works perfectly fine on an M1 Mac Mini, haven't had any problems with Opus or Play engine stuff. Pretty sure they updated everything for Apple Silicon.

L Lisa Doyle 2 months ago
Yeah, they rolled out updates a while back. You should be good to go. Just make sure your Opus software is updated to the latest version after you install.

Heard about a student discount for ComposerCloud. Is that still a thing and how do you even apply for it?

C Carly Hughes 1 month ago
Yeah, they definitely have one. I got it last year. You usually have to verify your student status through some third-party service, I think it was SheerID or something similar.

Can confirm, they offer it. It's a pretty sweet deal for students. Just check their site, there should be a link to the educational pricing page.

Thinking of grabbing Hollywood Orchestra during this sale. Is it really that much better than, say, Spitfire's stuff or is it mostly hype?

A Amber 1 month ago
I've used both extensively. EW is great for that big, 'Hollywood' sound right out of the box, really polished. Spitfire is often more nuanced and requires more tweaking, but can be incredibly expressive.

J Julia D. 1 month ago
Depends on your style man. EW is super easy to get a massive sound. If you like more control and a drier sound to mix yourself, Spitfire or OT might be better. But for epic, EW HO is king.
